Who We Are
Black Support Network was founded to address the racial wealth gap and offer new pathways to economic mobility that serve all people.

What We Do
We work with schools, institutions, and community partners to provide culturally competent financial education that helps build generational wealth and connections to Oakland's roots in Black and Brown history.
Changing the Narrative
As of 2024, California ranks among the least financially literate states, receiving a 'D' grade in financial literacy education, with only 27% of California high school students attending schools that offer personal finance classes.
BSN fills this gap by providing culturally responsive financial literacy education and essential financial skills often missing in traditional school curriculum.
Pervasive income inequality has restricted pathways to financial stability, homeownership, and wealth building for communities of color.
Our tailored financial literacy resources drive economic mobility, creating lasting opportunities for individuals historically excluded from generational wealth in Oakland.
Our stories have long been absent from U.S. textbooks, and today, rising attacks on public education and deliberate efforts to erase Black history threaten our cultural legacy.
BSN strengthens the community by grounding financial literacy through the transformative power of storytelling, turning money management into a journey of cultural pride.

What is Roots & Riches?
Watch our programs in action!

Roots and Riches is more than a money‑management class, it’s a culturally anchored mentorship initiative.
By blending historical context with actionable financial tools, it aims to empower Oakland’s Black youth with skills and support to pursue generational wealth.
"I loved this course! Thank you so much for offering free financial literacy education to people of color as this is not something we’re often taught in our homes or communities."
